The Best Place to have Charcuterie for Dinner

IMG_7308

Some of the time I just don’t want a large, traditional meal for dinner.
My idea was to go to a hip joint, where I could enjoy a nice bottle of wine and an array of great charcuterie. No better place to do that than Olympia Provisions in Portland, Oregon!

They offer two locations for dining and we selected their Southeast site located in a beautifully restored industrial building. If it’s pomp and circumstance you’re looking for, this is not the place for you. What you will get here is well informed and friendly service, great wine and incredible charcuterie!

They do offer several “large plates” of dinner fare. They also offer a nice selection of cheeses & small plates, as well as their award winning charcuterie’s. I selected their Spanish Board featuring three Spanish salamis, jamon york, fresh chorizo, Miticana (a soft, ripened Sheep’s milk cheese), fried almonds & piquillo pepper salad. We added Taleggio and Ancient Heritage cheese to our selection. We also couldn’t resist trying one of their specialty sausages so we ordered a side of their Kasekrainer sausage served with stone ground mustard. Our meal was paired with a local Pinot Gris from the Eyrie Vineyards and it was a perfect match.

I achieved exactly what I set out for. An authentic city spot with a comfortable vibe and great food. What I didn’t necessarily expect was the level of knowledgeable service and attention that we received. Moral of the story:  You don’t have to go “fine dining” to get a great dining experience. You just have to pick the right place and Olympia Provisions proved to be one of them!
