If you’re looking for the ultimate dining experience, you need to call and reserve the Chef’s Table at One Market in San Francisco. Originally led by Chef Bradley Ogden, it is now in the capable hands of Chef Mark Dommen who has been leading the charge for the last 12 years. One Market has a team of experts at the helm with Pastry Chef Patti Dellamonica-Bauler and Sommelier Tonya Pitts.
The single chefs table is a large booth set inside of the open exhibition kitchen. Our meal was personally designed and described to us by Chef Mark. We started with a plate of several amuse bouche offerings that were quite delightful along with a choice of delicious rolls.
Our meal consisted of 7 courses, each one more indescribably scrumptious than the next! During the meal their gracious Sommelier, Tonya Pitts invited us into their wine cellar, sharing informative conversation and a lovely bottle of sparkling wine.
As if that wasn’t enough special treatment, we were also invited by the pastry chef, Patti Dellamonica-Bauler to have two volunteers assist in the dessert preparation, viewed by the rest of our party. What a fun experience!
I have attended several chef tasting dinners and I find that although they are typically great, the emphasis can sometimes be on the artistic plating and unusual combinations more than the overall quality of the dish. That was not the case here. Although each dish was plated beautifully, the preparation and subtleties in the flavor combinations of each dish were sensational. I would gladly accept a repeat performance! The food was amazing.
We spent our entire evening at One Market enjoying the quiet efficiency of their kitchen and the smooth operation at each station. We were able to delight in each others company and indulge in a slow progression of culinary treats and libations throughout the evening without feeling at all disturbed by the motion of their operation. That is a feat in itself!
