You might easily pass by, without noticing the Granada Bistro in San Luis Obispo. It is tucked into the middle of a side street at 1126 Morro Street in downtown SLO. Diagonally across from the Apple Store, it is part of the Granada Hotel and offers cozy outdoor seating as well as open window/indoor dining. The Bistro is dripping with charm and adorns my favorite metal tree sculpture on the patio that doubles as a fire pit in the evening.
It is a perfect choice for a glass of wine and tapas as well as a complete meal. The food is sensational and the service; wonderful! This time, I was enjoying a dear friends’ company indulging in dinner before a trip to a local playhouse for an evening of theater. Their food won a 5 Star award from both of us!
We shared two starters that were elegantly plated and each bite was an explosion of flavor delicately portioned and perfect! (Yellowtail Sashimi and Mexican White Prawns) I was extremely impressed with their wine selection. We thoroughly enjoyed our carafe of Bodegas Ordonez 2011 Zerran Montsant. It is a reasonably priced delicious wine from Spain that earned 92 points from Wine Advocate.
Our next course was their Baby Beet Salad with smashed avocado, local citrus, arugula and strawberry powder. It was placed atop individual portions of beet puree one made from the yellow beets and another from the red. What an ingenious idea that I will have to try and recreate! The salad was simply delicious.
Our main entrees were the Halibut, their market fish special topped with a gremolata served over braised greens on a delicate puree of red pepper with a side of purple and orange carrots.
Our other entree was Mary’s 1/2 Organic Brick Chicken made with a sherry pan sauce with rosemary roasted potatoes and chili-garlic broccolini. The sauce was exceptional, light and flavorful; a perfect marriage with the tender chicken.
No time for dessert as we needed to head out to the theater. What an exceptional meal in a wonderful setting, and special time with my dear friend. You must try the Granada Bistro out for yourself when you are in San Luis Obispo. It is well worth the visit!
