After reading great reviews about “Girl and the Goat” in Chicago, I put it at the top of my list of restaurants to try. I had seen Stephanie in a guest appearance on one of my favorite cooking shows, The Taste. She has certainly won a myriad of accolades recently and this James Beard award winning chef, Stephanie Izard serves it up right!
The restaurant theme is centered around shared plates, which is my preferred style of eating. Not only do you get to try more items that way, you are generally served reasonable sized portions so you don’t have to crawl out of the restaurant and diet for the next month to make up for it!
We were instructed that about two plates per person should be the appropriate amount to satisfy our group and still leave room for dessert. Being the rule follower that I am, we ordered 8 share plates for the 4 of us.
Five of the items we selected were:
All of these items were good with the scallops being my favorite. However the other three items we ordered were what would bring me back. They were sensational!
Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face with sunny side egg, tamarind, cilantro, red wine-maple, and potato stix
Although we barely had room, we had to indulge in a couple desserts to share so we settled on:
Miso-Butterscotch Budino with bacon toffee, glazed pineapple and candied cashews
A wonderful dining experience in a casual friendly atmosphere. Loved exploring their menu and trying new things. It was well worth their accolades and definitely worth a trip back next time!
